Fitness Friday | Walker Pinney

What goes with Friday? (besides a healthy snack paired with a little cocktail to treat yourself?!) Fitness Friday, of course! We're chatting with Walker Pinney of Barre RVA and Tidal Wheel, both two great options for a kick-butt workout in #RVA. Read on to find out who Ms. Walker is and why she rules the barre and the bike!

1: What brought you to Richmond?

I was born and raised here in Richmond, so I moved back after finishing grad school at UVA!

2: When did you join studio and why?

I discovered group fitness once I left for college and team sports were no longer an option. I became addicted and made it part of my routine (and also learned it was the best hangover cure)!

3: Why do you exercise?

To feel good! My job can be pretty stressful, so there's nothing better than a good workout to help me "reset". I also love to set personal challenges for myself, it gives me something to work towards as a personal goal.

4: What type of music you like most?

Anything with a loud beat. Hip-hop, pop, rock, you name it. As long as it's something you can tap your toes to, I'm in!

5: What’s your favorite “healthy” food, store or restaurant to go to in RVA?

Yikes... I don't usually go for "heathy" food stops. I'm all about 'treat yo'self'! But I will say Elwood's always has a healthy option of the foods I love!

6: It's the weekend in RVA; where can we find you?

If you know me, you know you'll see me at Supper, Stella's or East Coast Provisions for brunch, followed by breweries in Scott's Addition. I consider it 'tradition' at this point!

7: What inspired you to become an instructor?

The same way that working out relieves stress for me, being able to help others have that feeling is just as inspiring. There is nothing more rewarding than hearing a client say how much better they feel after a workout!

8: In the morning you can’t live without…

Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

9: If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?

A personal jet. I love traveling more than anything, and not having to book plane flights and deal with the commute? I'd be somewhere different every weekend.

10: What is your favorite go-to exercise and favorite brand of workout gear?

Go-to exercise would have to be a combo of barre and cycle. They go so well together- cycle allows me to get a good heart-pumping sweat and barre gives me the tone and strength with an added bonus of protecting my joints. I've always loved classic lululemon... I have the same exact pair of pants and top in tons of colors.
