Daisy Massey Moossa

 

This Friday we shine the spotlight on the always bubbly and smiling, upbeat and enthusiastic Daisy Massey Moossa. Daisy can be found teaching Pure Barre (Pure Barre Short Pump) and Les Mills BodyStep.

 

Becoming an Instructor

What brought you to Richmond? I came to Richmond in August 2000 to attend VCU. I left for one year to serve in AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps and then returned (and have stayed).

 

When did you join your gym/ studio and why? Fitness and group fitness has always been a part of my life. I have always played sports and joined gyms wherever I am. I joined Golds Gym in 2005 (after VCU where I worked and worked out at their campus gym, the Siegel Center). I joined because of its location as I was just a block from the Fan Golds and stayed because of the group fitness. I was a part of Pure Barre in Richmond from the very beginning. I met the owner of my Pure Barre studio in group fitness classes at Golds. We both had a fierce love/obsession for it and I needed no convincing to teach for her and be a part of the very first Pure Barre in Richmond, VA.

 

Why do you exercise? For fun! Everything else comes along with it but first, and foremost, I work out because it makes me happy.

 

What is your favorite format that you teach? Pure Barre. I have worked out, played sports, run the Richmond marathon, and done sprint triathlons and nothing has made me stronger, fitter, and given me more mind-body connection than Pure Barre.

 

10 Random Questions for Daisy

  1. What are the top three qualities that draw you to someone? Kindness, wit, humor

  2. Type of music you like most? All music, any music, at any time.

  3. What’s your favorite “healthy” food, store or restaurant to go to? Tofu spring rolls at Trader Joe’s and buffalo vegan bites at Ellwood Thompsons.

  4. What do you like to do on weekends? Teach classes, workout, and spend time with my husband and our two dogs.

  5. What/Who Inspires You? Those who try aren’t afraid to try (something new or something different.) You can’t be scared to mix it up!

  6. In the morning you can’t live without… coffee

  7. Favorite place to go in Richmond? My house. I love being at home but don’t get to be there nearly as much as I’d like.

  8. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy? More active wear! It’s an addiction.

  9. What is your go-to favorite exercise? Any barre workout in turnout and running with my dogs.

  10. What is your favorite brand or favorite workout gear? Favorite brands are Splits59 and Beyond Yoga. Favorite workout gear is black leggings.
